Ford Explorer Buck And Jerk

Q. I have a transmission problem, I think. After 15 to 30 minutes of highway travel towing a light load (utility trailer) It feels like the transmission is down shifting. The tachometer changes ~300 rpm, then everything is okay. (This happens in about five second intervals.) It happens 4 to 8 times then seems to go away.

It happens in or out of overdrive. I haven't noticed it when I drive to work which is 30 minutes each way. I heard that there could be a problem with solenoids????

A. First thing to do is to pull the codes from the computer. If any of theses codes come up, 171, 172, 173, 175, 176, 177, 179, 181, 184, 185, 188, 189, then it is most likely a dirty or bad Mass Air Flow sensor. This has been somewhat of a problem for Ford.

To have it accurately tested, you would need to take it to a Ford dealer.
