Saturn SL-2 Sunroof Problems

Q. I have a 1996 Saturn SL-2. My problem is with the automatic sunroof. The problem is that I had been unable to open and close the sunroof. One day on an attempt to open the sunroof, it opened the right side of the sunroof partially while not opening the left side. I could hear a clicking sound like something was slipping like a gear or something.

Saturn SL-2 Sunroof Problems

I was able to get the sunroof to close by taking it to a friend that knew a little about how to get it closed manually and now it is closed. But I am not sure if it would be the motor or what would be the problem. Does this sound familiar? What would your advice be?

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Eric

A. Have you given a dealer a try? These are fairly complicated. There are two cables that run along each side of the top. It sounds like one of them may be stripped or the motor gear is slipping. Most times you have to remove the complete headliner to get at it!
