Ford Probe Blows Its Top
Q. Hi Vincent, My daughter just bought a 1989 Ford Probe (no turbo). After driving it for about a week the car overheated and the temperature light came on. Radiator fluid was coming out the overflow located next to the radiator cap. First we changed the thermostat and that didn't help. Next we change the water pump and that also didn't help.
From a cold start it takes about 30 seconds before the engine starts to overheat. I noticed that with the radiator cap off when I step on the gas it appears that exhaust is coming out of the radiator? Do you think I need to change the head gasket? I believe the car has a 2.1 liter engine and it does have A/C and is a standard.
Thanks for any help you can give.
ThomasA. Yep, sounds like the head gasket went to the great junkyard in the sky.
