Clunking Grand Cherokee

Q. I have a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo All-Wheel Drive, V-8, Power Steering, ABS. When driving 20 miles or more, while turning into parking lot, hard left or hard right.I get a binding, cluncking sound as if something is binding.

The half-shafts have been replaced and wheel hub and bearing assemblies have been replaced. Drive shafts and universal joints have been checked and they are alright. When vehicle is cold and not warm up yet. Everything is alright and the problem still present. I would appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you,
Rich

A. If it were me, and this only happened when the wheel was turned all the way to the left or right and going over any kind of bump, the first thing I would look at is the steering stops. When they get dry they make that same noise under those conditions. Make sure the plastic caps on the stop are intact. If they are, a good dollop of white grease will cure the problem.
