How To Test Your Shocks
Q. Hi, I have just installed new Rancho RS9000 shocks for my 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ). Everything is fine with the shocks and I drove comfortably with them for days. Then I wanted to test the shocks over a regular street bump with a speed of about 10-15 mph (stupid of me).
And after the third time going over the bump I felt a loud thump in the rear right of the car and ever since when I drive over a small regular street bump or any other irregularity on the road, I feel a rather loud thump. I believe something went loose that third time over the bump but I don't know what.
I know that a mechanic can take hours to diagnose the problem which may cost me hundreds of dollars. So the problem is not with the shocks it's that something is loose. I checked the shock and wheel and they are all right. Do you have any input for me please???
Thanks a lot,
MarouanA. You're going to have to pull the wheel off and look around. Something broke or came loose. But you don't need me to tell you that. It's possible you blew out a shock also. You might want to take it off and exchange it for a new one. If I could tell you what broke from here, I would tell you and send you a bill.
