Adjusting A Nissan Sentra Clutch Cable
Q. I have a 1992 Nissan Sentra and my clutch no longer works, no longer engages gears. The girl that I bought the car from said that when it happened to her, she took it in and they adjusted the clutch cable. I do not want to take the car in and would like to do it myself. Can you give me directions or instructions on how to do this?
Any help on what to look for or landmarks that would give me direction would be very helpful.
Thank you for your help,
JordanA.
If you look at the top of the transmission you will see the adjuster. There is a 10 mm nut on one side of the adjuster and a large thumb wheel on the other side.
Loosen the nut and, with a pair of pliers, hold the cable from turning. Screw the thumb wheel counterclockwise until there is, about, a ½" of play. You may need to spray it with some rust penetrant to loosen the thumb wheel enough to turn.
If after you make the adjustment there is only about an inch of the threaded end of the cable left, you should start thinking about a new clutch since you are at about the end of adjustment.
