Nissan Pathfinder Won't Move

Q. Aloha, I have a 1995 Nissan Pathfinder V-6, 4x4, with 75,000 miles. The problem occurred on the freeway going about 55-60 mph then pressed the gas and noticed I was not accelerating. No smoke, overheating, leaks, nothing. I have had my transmission go out in my other vehicle a Toyota 4runner with all the dramatics (slipping, leaks, burnt smelling fluid, etc.) but this Nissan Pathfinder had none of that.

I pulled over to the side safely and checked the fluid it looked and smelled good, then looked underneath no leaks, so I shut her down and checked my fuses but still would not engage in any gear either in forward or reverse, and had to get her towed to my house.

What could this be? Something electrical or mechanical? I have tried putting it in 4WD with no movement either? Could it be a plugged filter? Fluid level was fine with no signs of degradation. I definitely need your expert opinion. Thanks for taking the time out for my e-mail and thanks for a great web site.

Much appreciated,
Jaiko

A. Since you checked the fluid level and this happened while you were driving, I think it's safe to assume it is not a fluid or shift linkage problem.

That still leaves us with some possibilities, inside and outside the transmission. The most likey is the loss of transmission line pressure which could be caused by a bad Line Pressure Solenoid Valve. If it is a bad LPSV, that can be repaired without taking the transmission apart.

The other reason for a loss of line pressure is a bad transmission oil pump. This, and the other likely possibilities are inside the transmission and requires the transmission be removed for inspection and repair.
