F-100 Floating Down The Road

Q. Hello, I have an 1978 Ford F-100 pick-up, with a 306 engine, 3-speed standard transmission, 200,000 miles. The front end of the truck is very light when driving, feels like front end is floating. Would changing the front coil springs tighten the front end up. Would I also have to change the rear leaf springs?

The back of the truck shows no sagging. If its the front springs can I change them myself. And if its not any of these, any suggestions what it could be.

Thank you,
Bill

A. Before I go into replacing the springs, I would see what a good set of heavy duty shocks will do. The springs could be weak, but bad shocks will be more of a cause of that "floating" feeling than the springs.
