Honda Accord Torque Converter
Q. Hi, my check engine light came on and when I got the diagnostic test done. The car seems to stall when it is shifting into second gear. The car also has a burning smell. Strauss Auto said I need a torque converter. I am aware that it deals with the transmission. I wanted to know if it was okay to get a used torque converter and just install it or for the long run?
Should I just think about getting a rebuilt transmission? Is the torque converter the same as the clutch on a manual? Should this problem be addressed immediately or do I have some time?
I Have a:
1996 Honda Accord LX
4 cylinder automatic,
63,000 miles
fuel injectionThank you,
SheilaA. If you can't have the repair done at this time, just have them unplug the torque converter. It won't hurt anything except fuel milage a little.
Somehow I can't see the torque converter being bad. Not on a Honda and not at 64,000 miles. I would suggest going to a Honda Dealer and let them look at it for two reasons. One, they will know how to test it and, two, I used to work for Strauss Auto Stores in New Jersey.
Let's see what they say before we go into anything else.
