Dead Jeep Wrangler YJ

Q. Dear Vince, I have a 1992 Jeep Wrangler YJ. At first the Jeep wouldn't start so I got it looked at. The mechanic said I needed a new starter so I replaced the starter about a week ago. Then about a couple days later it wouldn't start again because of the battery. Then I replaced that but then a couple days later it wouldn't start again.

Then when I check my battery gauge it says its charging. So I was wondering if I have to get a new alternator and a new gauge. PLEASE help me I have no idea.

Thanks,
Nick

A. The best thing to do is to have the charging system tested. Any good shop can do this for a small fee. This will pin point the exact problem. Don't rely on the dash gauge, they can be inaccurate at times. Get it tested.

Since you have replaced the starter and battery, and I'm assuming the battery is dead, then about the only thing left is the alternator. But like I said, get the charging system tested.
