Chevy S-10 Revved Up, Going No Where
Q. I have a 1998 Chevy S-10 Pickup. 2.2 liter 4 cylinder with an automatic transmission. It has 55,000 miles on it. It’s fuel injected with ABS brakes, P/S and A/C. When I am driving on the freeway the engine will start revving like it needs to shift gears even though I am barely accelerating. I usually let off the gas and then step on it again.
It might do it again or it might not. I usually only notice this on the freeway at speeds of 50 mph or more. The truck drives fine otherwise. I have checked for fluids leaking and can find none and it does not shift hard when driving.
Thanks,
JackA.
What may be happening is that you are running on a restricted fuel pressure flow. A lot of times when a fuel filter clogs, it will act just like what you describe. If you floor the car, it should keep going. A clogged fuel filter will allow you to pull out for a bit and then stay at the same rpm's or even drop off like it's running out of gas.If it's not clogged you will need to have a scanner installed and test driven by a good tech to determine the root cause.
