Ram Van 3500 No Reverse
Q. Hey Vincent, I have a Dodge Ram Van 3500. The transmission is four speed automatic with overdrive and a switch to prevent the over ride from kicking in. The problem seems to be that there is no reverse. Forward action seems to happen from neutral then through the rest of the shifting positions down to first.
I looked under the vehicle (yeah, even with the cold and snow) all linkages appear to be attached and functioning. I am guessing the problem has more to do with something inside the unit. The transmission seems to be in two sections the larger main section is up front then the smaller section is attached to the larger section. The smaller section then attaches to the driver shaft. Looks to me like the shifter connects through to the smaller part of the transmission assembly.
I thought the problem may be the linkage was the culprit and may need an adjustment. Now I am not so sure about that. Any thoughts you may have on this would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
LennyA. Well if the shift cable is okay, then the problem is inside the transmission. Sometimes a partially clogged transmission filter will keep it from shifting into reverse, so I would try a fluid and filter change first. If that doesn't help, then it has to be opened up.
