Nissan Altima Shook And Died

Q. Dear Vincent, I have been a reader of your auto repair board for quite a while. A lot of people have got great help from you. This time, I have to ask you a serious question for my 1993 Nissan Altima. It was running great without any problems. But, somehow the engine started shaking a few days ago. It only occurred when the engine run under 1,000 rpm, especially just after starting.

After a while, it was fine. I decide to visit a mechanic today. But, this time, it shook again and stopped finally. Any suggestion are appreciated!

A. I don't think I can be very much help to you. The symptoms are a bit vague and can be caused by a number of things. It could be electrical, such as a bad Crank Angle Sensor, or fuel, such as a bad fuel pump or fuel pump control, or mechanical, such as a blown head gasket or vacuum leak.

At this point the best I can offer is to check all the electrical connections to be sure they are clean and tight. Then check all the vacuum lines to make sure they are in good shape and connected properly.
