Volkswagon Jetta Overheating

Q. I find that my Volkswagon Jetta will overheat when I'm doing any type of slow or stop and go driving. It's fine when I'm on the highway though. Any ideas?

Thanks...

A. I would check to make sure the cooling fans are coming on. When you are moving fast the air flowing through the radiator is enough to cool the engine At slow speeds there is not enough air flow to do the job so the engine gets hot and overheats.

You can run battery power to the fan motor to see if it runs. If it does then the fan motor is good and the problem is probably the thermo switch on the thermostat housing.
