Chevy Camaro Cooling System Problem

Q. Question I have a 1997 Chevy Camaro Z28 with the 5.7 liter, automatic transmission with 62,000 miles. It has fuel injection, ABS, P/S, A/C, cruise control and approximately 57,000 miles. I noticed the temperature gauge was not was going up to only the ¼ mark and loss of heat. Shortly after that the water pump went bad, leaking.

Chevy Camaro Cooling System Problem

I replaced the water pump and new thermostat. Problem still existed. I replaced the thermostat two more times, the last one being from the dealership. So then I had the coolant system flushed and new antifreeze added. Problem still there.

Then changed the engine coolant temperature sensor. And the problem still is there. While sitting and running the temperature gauge will go up to 210°, but once the car starts moving it falls' below the ¼ mark. If you could help me I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
Scott

A. It's not overheating, right? What's to worry about? Those factory gauges aren't the most accurate things. A scanner hooked up while driven will at least let you see what temperature the ECM is seeing. If you have heat now and are not overheating, I would not worry about it.

Also note that there is two different temperature sensors. One for the ECM and the other for the temperature gauge.
