Dodge Spirit Parking Brake Pedal

Q. When I release the parking brake, the parking brake pedal doesn't come all the way up. I used to give it a little nudge up with my foot and it'd be okay. Lately it stays so far down that the brake light is still on. I can still nudge it up, but when I let my foot go the pedal pulls back down till the light comes on again.

After about 5 or 10 minutes the pedal will slowly come back up by itself. As far as I can see all the springs etc. under the release are still attached, but it's possible I missed something, hard to see everything under there. I would appreciate any ideas, tips, etc. you have the time and inclination to share.

Thanks,
John

A. The parking brake pedal is pulled up by a spring attached to one of the brake shoes in the rear brakes. The first thing to try is adjusting, first, the rear brakes and then adjusting the parking brake cables. That should take care of the problem.
