Dodge Stratus Cooling Fans Stay On

Q. I have a 1995 Dodge Stratus ES, 2.5 liter V-6 with 54,000 miles. My problem is that both cooling fans start about three seconds after the car is started and continue to run until the ignition is turned off. I have already replaced the coolant temperature sensor and the relays (I tried both the high and low speed relays) and the problem still exists.

Dodge Stratus Cooling Fans Stay On

Based on everything I have seen in my web research the problem is most like in the PCM or air in the cooling system. Does this sound correct? Since bleeding air in the cooling system is probably a much cheaper route to try, can you give me some pointers on how to correctly do that?

I am somewhat mechanically inclined, but I haven't really spent a lot of time under the hood of this particular vehicle. If it is the PCM, is there any other route other than going to a repair shop?

Thanks for your help!
Chris

A. You can try bleeding the cooling system, it wouldn't hurt. The air bleed valve is located in the thermostat flange which is located below the throttle body. To bleed, open the valve while the engine is running until all air has bled from cooling system.

Since both relays are controlled by the PCM, I would first unplug the PCM and see if the fans shut off. If they don't, the problem is in the wiring between the relays and the PCM. If you check for stored codes you will probably find a code 35.
