Acura Integra Doesn't Like The Rain
Q. I have a 1992 Acura Integra LS 5-Speed. A couple of times in the last week, the check engine light has popped on for a second and then gone right off. This seemed to be occurring in rainy weather. Also, when the light would come on, it seemed like the engine would die, but then everything was fine.
I chalked it up to the wet weather and figured I would have it checked out in the next couple of weeks. Well, last night, I drove the car and could not get it restarted when I parked it. It would crank, but wouldn't turn over at all. The Check Engine light was on. I could periodically get it to start, but after about 30-45 seconds of idle, it would shut off.
Do you have any ideas or suggestions? The manual says that it could be a problem with the emission control system.
A.
Nine times out of ten this is caused by a secondary ignition problem. Distributor cap, distributor rotor and/or ignition wires. What you can do is fill a spray bottle with water, and if you do this in the dark it will be easier to see, and spray the distributor cap and ignition wires. If you see or hear sparking or arcing, you need a new distributor cap, distributor rotor and ignition wires.
