Beefing Up A Ford Mustang

Q. Hi Vincent, I have a 1991 Ford Mustang. It's a 4 cylinder. I was wondering if I could possibly beef up the car with a new engine? I don't know if that's mechanically possible without totally remaking the car or if it would be even worth it. So I guess my question is can I do it?

Beefing Up A Ford Mustang

A. Given the time and money, anything can be done to a car. That year Ford Mustang came with either the 2.3 liter or 5.0 liter engine. So you could pop the 5.0 liter in there. The transmissions are different, so you would need the engine AND transmission. And since the transmission is different, you would need to get a different drive shaft. And since the engine controls are different, you will need to get a new wiring harness and PCM.

If it were me, I would just trade this one in on one that already has the 5.0 liter engine in it.
