Plymouth Grand Voyager P0137
Q. Congratulations on a very informative site! In December we had our third child, so we decided on buying a used Plymouth Grand Voyager SE. Since this is a used car I decided on doing the following to it: Replaced air filter, spark plugs, ignition wires, PCV valve, cap, rotor, timing belt, water pump, belts, coolant and changed the oil and filter.
I drove it to Jacksonville from Miami and the van works very good.
Here are my two questions:
- The MIL turned on with code P0137. Can I fix this problem myself and where do I start?
- The transmission works fine and the fluid looks good. Should I have the transmission fluid flushed on a high mileage van? (The job would be done at the dodge dealer.)
- 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager SE
- 3.0 liter engine
- 4 Speed automatic transmission
- 92,000 miles
- Fuel Injection
- P/S, Dual A/C, Cruise Control
Thanks for your help...
A. P0137 is "Downstream O2 Sensor Shorted To Ground". This means that either the O2 sensor itself is bad, or the wiring is damaged. I would tend to think it's the O2 sensor that is the most likely possibility.
I would not recommend a transmission flush, but rather simply replace the transmission filter and whatever fluid came out with it.
