Cadillac DeVille No Start Cold

Q. Hope you can help me. 1987 Cadillac DeVille, motor is a 400. When it's warm out my car starts fine. When it gets in the 30's even 20's the car still starts, but the engine service soon light comes on. When it gets down in the teens and colder it doesn't start at all. Once it gets back in the 20's and warmer it starts.

Cadillac DeVille No Start Cold

On board computer reads: E12 E30 E59 E70. I had someone who said he found the problem. I guess he didn't. He put a new distributor cap on and also said that he changed some wires under the distributor that were brittle. My guess is it's some kind of temperature sensor. If you know, would you please tell me where to find its location?

Thank you,
Rich

A. These ECM codes and the problem you're having are probably being caused by a loose or poor ECM ground or engine ground connection. In your case the ECM ground connection is located on the left front fender behind the battery and the engine ground is located at the lower front of the engine near the starter motor.
