GMC Jimmy Shifts All Wrong Q. Vincent, My wife has a 2002 GMC Jimmy 4X4 automatic. Problems, we do not know. The 4X4 would not go back into 2WD for a few days and then it did with no problem. Now, two weeks later, the indicator light in not on any drive selection. When in N and the engine is reved, it moves forward. Shifting into R and it lunges backward and going into D it lunges forward.

She drove it home last night from work and it smelled hot and she said it did not shift when slowing down. The transmission fluid checked on Cold was too high on the dip stick. Any clues?

A. How did the transmission fluid get overfilled? This is the question. Isn't the truck still under warranty? Some faults inside the transmission will make trans "default" to a strange shift pattern. Did you have the transmission serviced? Sounds like something electrical going on inside the transmission, but that is just a guess. You should have it scanned for codes.
