Expo Has No OD Either

Q. Hello, I have a 1996 Mitsubishi Expo, 105,000, A/T, A/C. I purchased it from my brother recently.

Car runs smooth, but I noticed that the O/D is always engaged. At 55 MPH, running at 3200 RPM, and you can hear the engine running high. When I press the O/D button in the gear shift stick, it does not change the RPM's at all.

Could this be a mechanical or electrical problem? Where can I start checking?

PS: I looked for references for this model car, but it's nowhere to be found. This car was purchased in the Caribbean, and imported to the mainland a couple of years ago.

Thanks,
Orlando

A. I think the problem is probably electrical in nature. I would check the Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid first since that's the most likely problem.

Measure the resistance between the solenoid connector terminal 2 and ground. Resistance should be approxamatly 3 ohms. If the measured resistance does not match the standard value, replace the solenoid valve assembly.
