Ford Explorer Transmission Problem?
Q. Hi, I have a 1996 Ford Explorer with V-8 and 68,000 miles. I recently noticed that when I start to accelerate it is if the wheels spin but they don't. I think I may have a transmission problem. It has only happened twice and the dealer said to monitor it. I'm a little anxious about driving this any distance.
What do you suggest?
Thanks
A. It sure sounds like the transmission is slipping, but since it's only happened twice, anyone would be hard pressed to say definitively why. I know before I went looking for a problem like this, I'd want to be able to duplicate it so I know what I'm looking at. If a technician just started replacing parts now, it would be a guess at best and he would have no way of know if the problem was fixed or not. Not a good situation for either you or your tech.
Sometimes you just have to wait until it becomes a repeatable problem before it can be fixed.
