Clean Injectors
Q. Have all symptoms of the fuel injector problems - a mechanic looked at the engine and cleaned carbon out of "R R Injector System" - stated tune-up parts OK and suggested that I add Techron (2 cans) and run it on the Express way.
I followed directions on the Techron can - added one can with 10-12 gal of gas - last week. Problems is not as bad but for the most part is still there. Do I repeat the latter process or does the system need repair??? If so, what exactly will likely be repaired. Do not know a trusted mechanic, since the one I have used for several years just retired.
Engine has 64,000 miles and is city driven most of the time, have owned for 5 years and had 28,000 when purchased. Have continually changed oil and checked car out thoroughly annually. Please advise.
A. If the first treatment made a definite improvement, then I would go for a second and even third treatment. What it is doing is cleaning the deposits off the fuel injectors and intake valves. Over time these deposits build up and cause a problem with injector spray patterns and flow. Once it does the heavy work, using it every fifth tankful might not be a bad idea as maintenance.
The idea of running it on the expressway is to get the cylinders good and hot and burn out some of the garbage local driving can cause to collect.
