Ram Oil Pressure

Q. I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 liter V-8. Just recently after an oil change I noticed that the Oil Pressure gauge would mark 65 psi of pressure at start up. After riding around for 20 minutes at stop signs the pressure drops to about 35-40 psi of pressure.

Is this normal? Or should there be a constant level of oil pressure?

A. This is normal. When the oil is cold it is thicker and will record a higher oil pressure reading. When it warms up and thins out, you will get a normal oil pressure reading. Spec is 30 - 80 psi.
