Dodge Caravan Clicks

Q. Vincent, I have a 1993 Dodge Caravan, automatic transmission, that has some problems starting. With a turn of the key sometimes there are no problems. On other occasions there is a click from the engine compartment and nothing further. Returning the key to the off position and repeated attempts to start produce repeated clicks with each turn of the key.

Dodge Caravan Clicks

Some times three attempts are made before the engine turns over, on other occasions twenty or more clicks are needed before the car will start. Today it will not start at all. Time after time the key is turned with a resulting click and nothing else. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

David

A. It sounds to me like a bad starter.

If you look on the starter you will see one large wire and one small wire.Put a test light on the small wire where it goes to the starter. Have someone turn the key to the START position. If the test light lights and the truck doesn't start, that confirms the bad starter.
