Ford Explorer Limited Questions

QUESTION #1: When I go over a bump or a speed bump where the vehicle will bounce a little in the front first and then the rear wheels will hit the bump and bounce a little there seems to be a squeak in the rear somewhere when the rear wheels hit the bump and it bounces a little. The bouncing is normal so the shocks seem okay. Any ideas?

QUESTION #2: When my vehicle is running I can hear a little whine coming from the instrument panel. Generally in the area of the tachometer and speedometer. Any ideas?

Shiloh

A. 1. The squeak is probably a dry bushing. i would try spraying all the bushings with something like WD-40 or Liquid Wrench. Spray them really well while an assistant bounces the back end up and down. It may take three or four applications over the course of a couple of weeks for the lubricant to soak in. But if it is a dry bushing, this will get rid of your squeak.

Also check under the back seat for mice.

2. Usually a speedometer cable would make a noise such as you describe, but your vehicle doesn't have a speedometer cable. I would really have to hear the noise to come up with some kind of diagnosis. It may be a vibration. Try sticking pieces of match book covers in the seams to see if that makes a difference.
