MB Radio Removal

Q. Hi, Vincent, I am attempting to remove the factory radio from a 1983 Mercedes 380 SL. I was able to remove the radio face plate but cannot remove the radio chassis. According to information on an older model, I should be able to depress two plastic tabs located in the lower right and left hand corner of the chassis and the radio will slide out.

These tabs are metal and will neither depress nor elevate. They are somewhat loose in the chassis slots but I cannot move them up or down.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Mike

A. There is a special radio chassis removal tool to get the chassis out. Without them it is not likely you'll get the chassis out without damaging it. The tools are available for purchase at any MB Dealer.
