Ford Crown Victoria Missing
Q. I have a 1995 Ford Crown Victoria 4.6 liter with an automatic transmission, fuel injected, ABS, P/S with 102,000 miles. When you accelerate just a little or when you start up a slight grade it stumbles or misses. If you give it the gas til it down shifts it will level out and run okay.
If the cruise is on it will continue to stumble and miss until it shifts itself down and goes on. The first time it done this I changed out a bad plug wire that had shorted and was going to ground. The second time I changed all the wires and plugs. Each time it was only a temporary fix lasting only a couple thousand miles. They may or may not be related to the problem.
I was wondering if it was related to a problem I heard about with the EGR system on the Ford Crown Victoria. If so how do I fix it? If not what do you suggest? When I purchased the car it had 54,000 miles and it started shortly after, the dealer told me to change the transmission fluid and filter. I changed it from Mercron 2 to Mercron 3. I don't think it was the problem at all. That's when I found the bad plug wire.
Thanks a lot in advance,
Dan T.A. I've seen some problems with the EGR DPFE system. It's a case of what my mentor used to tell me, "The more they complicate the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain".
The first thing I would do is find out what codes are stored in the computer. That will give us a good place to start looking for a problem. You can get the codes extracted by an Autozone parts store for free.
