Ford Mustang Got No Get Up And Go

Q. Dear Vince, I have a 1985 Ford Mustang GT 5.0 liter engine and standard transmission. About two months ago I replaced the old T5OD transmission with one I purchased from a transmission shop and my problem is the horse has no getup and go, so I checked numbers off the tag that's attached to the transmission using a book titled Catalog of Ford Mustang ID numbers 1964 to 1993.

Ford Mustang Got No Get Up And Go

I discovered this transmission was out of a 4-cylinder and since my Mustang is an 8-cylinder I was wondering if that could be my problem? These are the numbers off my old transmission:

E57R-7003-FA-REP-AH

13-52-126 1474OK 1042

And these are the numbers off the transmission I replaced it with:

E7ZR-7003-AA-REP-AP

13-52-162 35835 DO573

Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Johnny

A. The transmissions for the 4-cylinder and the 8-cylinder were totally different but are interchangeable. It shouldn't have any effect on performance, unless the clutch is worn down. I would assume that a new clutch was installed when the new transmission was installed.

I would look at the engine for the problem. It is very possible that, and I have done it myself, a vacuum line or electrical connector got pulled off when the new transmission was installed. Also check for wires pinched between the engine and transmission.

Especially check the air intake hose from the MAF to the intake manifold for proper attachment and cracks.
