Weird Ford Bronco Problem

Q. I have a 1991 full size Ford Bronco 302 automatic throttle Body Injection. For a while now, the engine has had a rough idle, and noticed hesitation when taking off from a start and slower speeds and having problems holding power when going high speeds, especially up hill.

The CHECK ENGINE light came on the other day while on a long trip. Upon pulling back into town, I had it plugged into a computer. The result was OXYGEN SENSOR. Also, I have noticed gas in the oil, and the air filter is saturated with gas. I replaced the air filter a month ago, and it is saturated again.

I replaced the Oxygen Sensor today and put it back on the highway. The CHECK ENGINE light went off but still noticed hesitation. The shop that replaced my oxygen sensor showed me that my exhaust manifold on passenger side was cracked in two places.

Do you have any idea why there is gas in my oil, the breather element got saturated with gas in only a month, and I have a "lag" on engine power? Could the bad oxygen sensor fooled the computer into putting way too much fuel through the system causing saturation?

Thank You for your advice,
Greg

A. First off, the exhaust manifold would have noting to do with the problem you are experiencing. That's not to say it shouldn't be replaced however.

I have to be honest and tell you I have never come across a problem like this before. I would almost have to say it seems like the injectors are dumping way too much fuel into the engine. This might result in the symptoms you describe. I would also check the PCV system and make sure it is operating normally. It might be sucking too much air in and drawing fuel along with it.

I wish I could be more specific, but this is a case where I would have to see the vehicle in order to even begin to form some type of diagnosis. Sorry I can't be of more help to you.
