GM Cooling System Flaw

Q. I have a Chevy truck with a 350 and a Suburban with a 350; the coupling at the manifold for the heater hose keeps corroding and is very expensive to fix when it breaks off in the aluminum manifold. Can you help?

A. That is a very common problem with that setup. I have replaced a few manifolds myself because of it. I don't really see how it can be prevented. It is obviously a design flaw. I guess one could have a new coupling made from stainless steel but I don't know how that would react with the aluminum.

For what it's worth, the 350 engine is not the only one effected. The V-6 has the same problem.
