Grand Am Giving Fits
Q. My 1995 Pontiac Grand Am with the quad 4 and auto transmission is giving me fits. The Check Engine light will come on and when it does. The car wants to die and sometimes does. It will start to sputter and doesn't want to take the gas. When you put it into neutral and try to give it gas it will almost die and start to sputter with no power.
If you shut it off and restart, it will run fine and might not do it again for quite awhile. It has 52,000 miles on it, new plugs, air filter, gas filter and a full tank of gas.
Any suggestions?
BillA. The best thing for you to do is to take it to the Pontiac Dealer and let them pull the codes out of the computer. Whenever the computer it turns on the Check Engine light and stores a code in the computer. The code will remain there even though the light goes out.
This is the best way to find out what's wrong because if you start checking things out while it is running good, everything will test out fine.
