Ford Crown Victoria PCV Filter

Q. I own a 1991 Ford Crown Victoria with a 5.0 liter engine, automatic transmission, 61,611 miles, fuel injection, no ABS brakes, P/S, A/C and cruise control. Does the engine need the PCV filter or will it be alright with out it? And what would cause the engine to blow the oil out the PCV?

Ford Crown Victoria PCV Filter

A. Yes, the PCV filter is necessary. The PCV filter keeps dirt and garbage from entering the crankcase. Usually when oil backs up out of the PCV valve and into the air cleaner is because either the PCV valve is bad or there is a cracked or blocked PCV hose.
