Volkswagon Jetta DTC P1137
Q. Vincent, I own a 2000 VW Jetta GLX. I recently got the 30,000 Mile servicing done for the car. Sometime last week the "Check Engine" light on my dashboard showed up. Also the "Emissions, Workshop!!" message was showing. I took it to a technician, he hooked the car up to the computer and it gave the following message:
17545 P1137 Long Term Fuel Trim Add. Fuel, Bank 1 System too Rich.
He replaced both the O2 sensors on my car, it cost me about $300.00. But after two days of changing the sensor. The light on my dashboard along with message showed up again. What could be the problem? I have a feeling that the mechanic did not diagnose the problem correctly and replaced the sensors in a hurry. Even he is not sure or is unable to figure out what the issue could be. Please help me.
Thank you,
RajA. Again I see the same mistake made again. This has got to be the most common mistake anyone, DIY and Professional, makes. I mean it says "System too Rich" that should be a clue. You need to read and understand what the code is telling you. If it was a bad O2 sensor, it would say a fault in the O2 sensor circuit.
This code is saying the engine is using too much fuel. So we have to look at, first, fuel pressure and make sure it is not too high. Also we need to look at the fuel pressure regulator and the injectors as possible causes.
NOTE: Add. = additive (the malfunction only has an effect at idle).
