Ford Taurus Neutralizes When Warm
Q. 1994 Ford Taurus, 3.0 liter V-6. When the transmission is in gear the car rides for a short distance and then the transmission seems to go in to Neutral. I accelerate but the car does not advance. After the car cools off, I start the car again, drive for a short distance and it will repeat the same problem. Thinking it was a transmission problem, it was repaired and finally replaced, but the problem persists.
I wonder if it could be a sensor or an electronic problem, what do you suggest?
A. There was a TSB issued for this problem on the 1994 to 1998 Ford Taurus. TSB number 98-3-7 dated 02/16/98. It involves replacing the forward clutch piston with a revised Forward Clutch Piston, part number F8DZ-7A262-AB.
Some other things that might be causing the problem is the Manual Lever Position Sensor (MLPS), Turbine Speed Sensor (TSS), Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and transaxle top connector. Check the harness connectors for proper installation to these connectors as well.
I think you might want to take this to a Ford Dealer and let them diagnose the problem.
