Plymouth Laser Lost Overdrive Q. Hi, my car is a 1991 Plymouth Laser, 2.0 liter 16V DOHC turbo. As of last night I've been having a massive problem with speed. If I take my car up to 80km/h the transmission will disengage and my rpm's will scream. When this happens, it's like the car is in neutral. This is in overdrive. If I keep the car in drive I have no problems.

But I can't take the car over 80 because it 's so loud and my temperature goes up. Please help if you can. I'm not ready to give up on my Laser yet

A. It sure sounds like you lost OD. It is something a transmission shop will have to diagnose since the most likely cause is inside the transmission.
