BMW 328is DTC P0340

Q. Hello Vincent, I need your help. I own a 1998 BMW 328is with approximately 56,000 miles on it. It has an automatic transmission. I usually do my own repair and maintenance on my vehicles up to a certain level. I have some electrical and electronic experience also. My car has been running fine, but recently the "Check Engine Light" came on.

I had it scanned and it came up with a code of P0340. I identified it has something to do with the Camshaft Position Sensor (CPS) circuit. I checked the wiring etc. but not really even sure of the exact location of the sensor. Could you send me a wiring diagram of the circuit and some testpoint locations and maybe some ideas of the possibilities of the cause of this problem?

Thanks,
James

A. Here is a picture of where it is located and the wiring. Unplug the PCM connector and the CPS and check the wires for continuity. If the wires are good, chances are the CPS is bad.
