Slipping Jeep Cherokee

Q. Hi, I have a 1995 Jeep Cherokee 4.0 liter, automatic transmission. I have noticed that it takes longer to shift gears than what is usual. Getting into fourth gear takes the most time and I often have to accelerate to 65 to shift into 4th. Do you know what could have caused this recent shift problem?

A. Before we go looking for expensive trouble, let's start out with a transmission fluid and filter change. A lot of times this is all that's needed to correct this kind of problem. I would recommend a Chrysler dealer just for the fact that you know you will get the correct transmission fluid there. Of course you can get a few quarts and DIY. It is not difficult.
