Chrysler Concorde RKE And Steering

Q. My husband is a very smart man, at least he tells me he is, although at times that is very questionable. When he can't fix something or figure out what's wrong he is not easy to live with, or at least, MORE not easy to live with. Our 1994 Chrysler Concorde keyless entry one day just stopped working. YES, the batteries are good in both key fobs.

We have reprogrammed it and it will cycle but still will not work. Is there a sensor that needs replacing somewhere we can't find information about?

Okay, now, the steering rack went on the car a couple years ago. The car has a speed sensor, I am assuming, since now when the car is going faster the steering is very loose and tight when we go slow.

The steering will get very stiff as we drive or turn corners then let loose all of a sudden as if the front end has locked up. Since our daughter drives this car to college we'd like to get it fixed, and with her in college we need to do it cheap!!! Sorry for the novel.

Thanks,
Jackie

A. If the door locks cycle when you end the reprogramming, then the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module has accepted the programming. The only other reason, besides a bad RKE module is bad transmitters. Yes, both must be bad.

You can test the RKE module to be sure. All you need is a DVOM.

  1. Using a voltmeter, check Pin 8 of the RKE module black connector for a battery voltage.
  2. If no voltage check fuse 14 of the junction block, repair as necessary. If okay, go to step 3.
  3. Check Pin 2 of the blue connector ignition voltage.
  4. If no voltage check fuse 13 of the junction block, repair as necessary. If okay, go to step 5.
  5. Using an ohmmeter, check Pin 4 of the RKE module black connector for ground.
  6. If no ground repair as necessary. The ground is located near the airbag control module bracket. If okay, go to step 7.
  7. Check Pin 5 of the RKE module black connector for ground. Check Pin 4 of the black traction control connector for ground. If okay, replace the receiver module. If not okay, repair as necessary.

As for the steering problem, I think you probably have a bad power steering pump. There, also, was a problem with the inner tie rod ends. I would check them and if you find any play in them, Chrysler has a countermeasure tie rod end lit for them.
