Honda Civic Won't Start Or Run
Q. Hi there, I talked to you a long time ago about my 2000 Honda Civic. The problem was we tried to put a new cam in but the lobes were too different so we decided to just keep the stock cam in. Well we finished and the car ran, but not very well. So I went to adjust the timing and than it didn’t start at all.
I did everything I know how to do with #1 TDC, and everything with timing. It has spark, its getting fuel, but there's no compression on any cylinder. The thing that stumps me is when I put the timing back to stock, and now it's not running, I put a mark on the belt and cam gear. But now whenever I go to turn it over those two marks never line up.
Thanks for your time,
CurtA. If you made, and went by, your own marks, you have a problem. Use the marks on the gears and set the timing up as shown below. Make sure #1 is at TDC and the distributor rotor is pointing at #1 tower.
If they don't line up then set them so they do. Rotate the engine by hand at least one full revolution. If it rotated smoothly check the compression again. If you still have no compression, the head has to come off and all the valves replaced.
