A/C Problem
Q. Dear Vincent, I have a 1991 Mazda B-2200 short bed pickup. 2.2 liter, carburetor with 104,000 miles.
Recently the A/C was re-charged at a certified station, and after a few days I noticed a problem. The A/C works only on the lowest fan level. When fan is advanced to second click and higher (on both rec. and fresh modes) the compressor shuts of and will begin to blow warm air.
Also, on the lowest setting the compressor will constantly turn on and off. What could be the problem and can I fix it inexpensively. Someone told me it may be the resistor in the blower motor, is that true? Any solutions would be greatly appreciated. Many Alohas from HAWAII.
Thank you...
GuyA. The short answer is you have a leak in the system. I would think that the shop that did the recharge either failed to check for leaks before they charged the system or they missed a leak.
What's happening is when the A/C kicks on, the low pressure is dropping low enough to trip the low pressure switch which is designed to shut the compressor off when the pressure is to low. When it cuts off the compressor, the low side pressure builds up enough to turn it back on and the cycle starts over. This results in the on-off that you are experiencing.
I would bring it back and make sure they locate and repair the leak before they charge it again.
