Audi A/C Recharging

Q. My A/C on the 1994 Audi 90s 2.8 liter V-6, 4 speed automatic does not get cold. I had it recharged a couple of years ago. I think it came from the factory with R134-a.

I got a "Complete R-134a Service Kit" to charge it up myself but cannot find the "low side service port" to check the pressure, and add refrigerant. The only a/c connector I see is on the front of the car on the driver's side of the radiator. I was told that this is the high pressure port.

I saw some postings on the web that said you need to charge an Audi via the high side port, but the instructions with the recharge kit say "Do not connect to high pressure side. This may cause can to burst..."

Is there a low-pressure service port on my car? Is it safe to recharge via the high pressure side?

A. Only a high pressure service valve is used for A/C system servicing on this car. A low pressure service valve is not installed in the A/C system. Carry out all A/C system service operations (i.e. discharging, evacuating, and charging) through the high pressure service valve only.

In order to service this system you need special equipment. If you attempt to recharge the system through the high pressure port while the engine is running, the can will explode. I would take this one to a shop.
