Chevy S10 Blazer Won't Idle Right
Q. My truck will not idle when first started and coughs and jumps if you don't let it warm up, in any temperature. The carburetor is the original and it doesn't seem to flood. I wanted to ask you before buying a new carburetor also.
- 1985 Chevy S10 Blazer
- 2.8 liter V-6
- Manual transmission
- 160,000 miles
Also, I had a guy tell me of a Product called FREEZE 12. Have you heard about it? Is it safe to use in place of R-12? I had a conversion (134A) done on my 1988 Chevy S10 Blazer and it has never cooled right. I would rather pay the price for R-12 than mess up the original system with a low quality product. As always thanks for the expert advise you share with us.
A. You may have a choke not working properly. Maybe coming on okay but not opening enough after start up. This could be a bad choke pull off. A little vacuum diaphragm on the side of the carburetor. Also may have vacuum leak. These used to suck intake gaskets inside the engine. Spraying carburetor cleaner into oil fill cap will tell you if this is the case. Engine will run much better if there is a leak inside.
As for the refrigerant, I would not add anything but R-12 or R-134. All those others are "blends" and are considered contaminated freon to anyone who has a recovery machine with a identifier on it. They will alert the tech that the system is contaminated and it will cost you BIG bucks if you contaminate their machine.
