Pontiac Firebird Key Hard To Turn
Q. Hi, I just some quick questions regarding my car. I have a 1996 Pontiac Firebird, 6 cylinder, automatic transmission. The problem is that when I put the key in the ignition I have to play with it to get it to turn and when I go to shut the car off. I'm scared I'm going to break the key because it's so hard to turn.
My question is: What exactly is wrong and How difficult of a fix would this be for someone who doesn't have a great deal of experience working on cars. Also, what would the cost be either way?
Thank you for your time,
LaurieA. Check the key. Is it worn? Do you have a spare key? The key may need to be replaced or you may have a problem in the lock cylinder. That would mean you need a new lock cylinder which would also mean you will get two new keys with it. If there is a pellet in the key, you will need to get your parts at a dealer.
