Corolla Rough Acceleration
Q. Hello, I have a question about my 1995 Toyota Corolla 1.6 liter. About two days ago my car engine started shaking when I accelerate. The car also lost some power. I changed the spark plugs, wires, and the distributer cap about a year ago. I tried changing the spark plugs again today and the problem still continues.
I'm not sure if I need to change the fuel filter. Would a clogged fuel filter cause the engine to shake? Any suggestions? Please help.
Thanks,
MichaelA. Replacing the fuel filter is a good idea and I would do that before anything else.
If this doesn't take care of it, then you have an injector(s) not firing or a dead cylinder. What you can do to isolate the problem to a particular cylinder is to unplug each injector one at a time until you find one that doesn't change engine rpm. That's the cylinder that has the problem. You can do a quick compression test to eliminate that possibility.
