Nissan Altima Has A Heads Up
Q. Hello Vincent, My 1993 Nissan Altima has a speedometer with Heads Up Display. I was having a problem with the speedometer. The speedometer used to fluctuate when the car was at a complete stop, which also caused the odometer to roll. While driving, the speedometer would show the accurate speed of the vehicle.
After explaining this problem to a mechanic, the mechanic said that it was a faulty speed sensor and would have to be replaced. I have a brand new speed sensor, however this did not fix the problem. My speedometer does not work at all now.
Sometimes it is at a stand still, other times it is completely wacko. It goes from 20 mph to 100 mph to 50 mph etc. and will not show the accurate speed of the vehicle at all.
The mechanic tells me that I will now need a new speedometer. He could be right, but I don't want to take my car back to this mechanic because it seems he made the problem worse. I then took the car to the dealer, who told me that I will need a brand new speedometer, control unit, and heads up display.
Another dealer told me that I should only have to replace the speedometer. I'm confused. Please help me!

If you are handy with an ohmmeter, you can test it for yourself. Here's how to do it.SYMPTOM: Speedometer indication flutters.

If not, you can print this out and have your mechanic do the test.
