Buick LeSabre No Start
Q. First of all I want to say that this a great service that you provide, thank you very much. Here is my problem: about a week ago I went out to start my car, a 1986 Buick LeSabre with about 90,000 miles, it would not start. It is an automatic. The car had been running rough and a little loudly previously but I thought that it was the catalytic converter that needed to be replaced.
Well anyway the car would not start. It sounds to me like it is not getting gas or I a really dry sounding start. I know that it is getting gas however because I pulled the spark plugs out and they were wet and smelled like gas. The oil smells a little like gas as well. The car also is kicking out exhaust through the air intake. I really have no idea what is wrong. I am worried that the timing belt has slipped or is broken.
The car has sat for a couple of days and the spark plugs have been replaced and still no start, so I don't think it is a flooding problem. Please help if you can, I would really appreciate any advice.
Thank you for your time,
CollinA. Well you don't have to worry about the timing belt, you don't have one. But that's not to say there isn't a problem with the timing chain, it just went lower on the list of possibilities.
I think the first thing to do is change the oil and filter. The car was obviously flooded and the gas has diluted the oil. This in itself will keep the engine from building compression and starting.
So, for now do the oil and filter change, that should get you going. If not then we can start looking for something else.
