Toyota 4 Runner Dies Within Minutes
Q. Hello, My name is John and I'm having problem with my fuel system. MAF, Fuel Relays, Fuel Pump? My 1991 Toyota 4 Runner 22R-E turns off after running for a few minutes. There is a clicking noise under the dash board, passenger side. Seems to be a relay or fuel pump issue. Any advice?
A.
There are a number of reasons for this problem. Some are fuel related and some are ignition related. So, we need to determine which it is.What you can do is take a vacuum line off the intake manifold and shoot a healthy shot of carburetor cleaner into the intake manifold. Replace the vacuum line and try to start it. if it starts and runs, we know it is a fuel problem and not an electrical problem.
If it doesn't start, then you are probably looking at a bad Ignition coil, igniter, pickup coil or distributor. Check the codes in the computer and see what you have.
If it dies but restarts immediately, you are probably looking at a bad igniter.
